What Are Suhba Groups, and Why Do They Matter?
If you’ve been journeying with us for a while, you’ve probably heard about our Suhba groups. But what are they? Why do they matter?
In 2006, Engaging Worlds shifted our focus. We dove into translating the stories of Scripture into unreached Muslim languages. As we completed translations, we were confronted with a question: We have the Scripture stories, but how are people engaging with them?
Our answer: Suhba groups.
Suhba groups are intentional learning cohorts for Muslims to directly engage with the stories of Scripture. These cohorts create a low barrier for Muslims to hear, comprehend, and interact with the words of Scripture. Think of them as a church small group, emotional healing community, and book club combined into one.
The results are amazing! Within these safe spaces of learning, Muslims are able to dive into these translated stories in a way that has a tangible direct impact on their lives and the Muslim communities where they live.
Currently, these cohorts are exploding, especially in the Philippines. We are seeing steady growth within our sister and brother cohorts in the Philippines, with Muslims from across multiple regions joining, learning, and growing. We are also seeing Suhba groups beginning to take shape in Central Asia, a historically difficult region to form small groups. Praise God!
