Director of Development

The Director of Development is a senior-level position responsible for leading the fundraising efforts of Engaging Worlds. This nonprofit organization creates access for Muslims to discover the words and ways of Jesus. The Director of Development will work with a team of staff and volunteers to raise $400,000 in the next 21 months and double the organization's annual giving over the next 24 months.

The Director of Development will also oversee a partner relations coordinator and marketing coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that aligns with Engaging Worlds' mission and strategic goals. This includes conducting a needs assessment, setting fundraising goals, and developing strategies for raising major, mid-level, and small gifts.

  • Build and maintain relationships with major-mid-level donors, foundations, and grant-writing entities. This includes researching potential donors, cultivating relationships, and soliciting gifts. The Director of Development will also develop and maintain a donor database.

  • Solicit and close major gifts. This includes identifying donors who are interested in making a large gift, developing a fundraising proposal, and negotiating the terms of the gift. The Director of Development will also manage the gift acceptance process.

  • Cultivate and solicit mid-level and small gifts. This includes identifying donors who are interested in making a smaller gift, developing a fundraising proposal, and thanking donors for their gifts.

  • Manage a team and recruit volunteers. This includes delegating tasks, providing feedback, and resolving conflicts. The Director of Development will also provide training and development opportunities for the fundraising team.

  • Oversee the development and execution of fundraising events. This includes planning events and managing logistics. The Director of Development will also be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of fundraising events.

  • Track and report on fundraising progress. This includes tracking donations, setting benchmarks, and adjusting the fundraising plan as needed. The Director of Development will also prepare annual and quarterly fundraising reports.

  • Engages people via any means possible to gain their trust and partnership in the ministry. This role is remote, but there will be a consistent need for face-to-face meetings with key ministry partners.

  • Enjoys interacting with people and is not afraid to pick up the phone and call someone. This role leans more toward action and implementation than simply strategizing.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of success in fundraising. This includes raising a significant amount of money and closing major gifts.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. This includes building relationships with donors, writing clear and concise proposals, and giving presentations.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors. This includes understanding donors' interests and needs and developing fundraising proposals that meet their needs.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. This includes managing multiple projects simultaneously and working effectively with other staff and volunteers.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills. This includes setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and tracking progress.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Donor management software.

  • Must have a completed bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Must be willing to travel outside of your local area.
