Andy’s Story: Breaking Barriers and Building Trust in Central Asia

Andy is a former Muslim who follows Jesus now.

Living in a difficult context in Central Asia, Andy wasn’t sure how to reach his community with the gospel. Then he discovered Engaging Worlds. As he interacted with the stories we have translated, Andy saw how they connected with his people and clearly communicated the truths of scripture in a way his community would understand. These stories were the answer to his prayers.

Since meeting Andy, our team leaders in Central Asia have developed a deep relationship with him, sharing principles that have helped him relate more effectively with the religious people around him. He was able to apply these principles when he met a man from a very religious sect. As one of Andy’s friends began arguing with the man, Andy was able to step in and share gospel truths in a respectful and effective way. This man was so impressed by Andy’s demeanor and communication, that he wants to keep talking about the stories of scripture with Andy!

And that’s not all. Over the past year, with the help of a small but talented team, Andy has organized the translation and editing of more stories into Taraki, his community’s language. Our team has even begun working on five more prophet stories to translate into the Taraki language!

All of this impact would not be possible without the relationship our team formed with Andy. These types of relationships are the foundation for translation work, respectful dialogue, and life change. And they are being formed every day.

Every day, our teams are working within Muslim contexts to make connections that will open doors to impact communities with the truths of scripture. As these relationships form, spiritual growth is sparked, cascading through families, friend groups, and entire communities.

Join us in praying for more of this growth! For Andy, our team in Central Asia, and the continued work of translation in this region. For more trusting relationships to be formed with Muslim believers, and for these relationships to be the beginning of change in communities around the world.
