Muslims Seek God through Elijah Translation Project

The stories of Scripture aren’t always clear. We have all experienced times where we look at Scripture and think, “What is this about?” But we aren’t alone. We are equipped and guided by the Holy Spirit, even in the midst of our spiritual confusion. 

This same Guide is present in the lives of our translators, many of whom are Muslims on the same spiritual journey as you and me. 

I have clearly seen the Holy Spirit’s guidance at work in the life of Auntie H, project manager and translator for the Couscous Project in North Africa. Over the last month, I have been blessed to walk with Auntie H. through the story of Elijah. Her initial reaction was that Elijah’s story is “dark, confusing, and unclear.” She told me, “I would never give this story to someone.” 

You can imagine my discouragement. How was this story going to impact the lives of Muslims if it didn’t even seem clear to one of our crucial translators? 

But I was reminded that there is power in these stories—power to break down barriers and help Muslims grow spiritually.

I asked Auntie H. to re-write the introduction, which she did. We then began working through the story one line at a time. Were all her questions answered? No. But with each line, she began to see God’s character more clearly. She began to see the impact Elijah could make on her journey and the journey of other Muslims.

The Holy Spirit showed up, guiding Auntie H. and me through the story of Elijah and opening our eyes to the truth in this story. 

It doesn’t end there. The impact of the Holy Spirit on Aunti H.’s life pours out onto others who know her. This month we have introduced Auntie H. to other members of our team overseas. As these relationships grow and flourish, Auntie H. is able to share her wisdom with these translators, speaking into the difficult contexts and situations they are navigating. She has also been able to share about her own journey with God, welcoming other Mulsims to grow spiritually alongside her.

Auntie H. is just one example of many translators and Muslims whose lives are being forever changed by the power of these stories that demonstrate the character of God and cultivate spiritual growth. 

This is how change will continue. One story at a time. One heart at a time. All guided by the Holy Spirit’s hand.
